IBHS has established building methods to protect your home and personal property from high winds and wind driven rain.
Your roof is the first line of defense against the elements. Fortified roof construction is based on more than 20 years of scientific and real-world research for proper structural engineering and building by the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS). Visit their link below beside the FORTIFIED logo.
Intracoastal Roofing has been a Certified IBHS Fortified Wise Roofing Contractor since the commencement of these building methods in North Carolina in 2016. We are a participating contractor with the Strengthen Your Roof and Strengthen Your Coastal Roof grant programs implemented by our State Wind Pool organization NCJUA/NCIUA. We have built hundreds of Fortified Roofs along the NC coast.
NCJUA/NCIUA has two programs for assisting homeowners to build Fortified Roofs, one through an insurance claim and another through the grant Program. Both programs achieve the same result - a new roof with Fortified Retro-fit and financial assistance to the owner in the amount of up to $8,000. Upon completion of the new roof, the IBHS certifies the build for five years and there is insurance premium savings for the owner.
Coastal North Carolina is now rated as a 150 mph Wind Zone area. A Fortified Roof is a roof replacement which includes components to ensure that the roof is properly attached to the structural framing, sealed to avoid water intrusion in the event of roof blow-off and the use of corrosive resistant nails properly spaced to wind engineering requirements. A Fortified Roof will provide peace of mind, and the NCJUA/NCIUA programs allow for financial assistance to build your roof to the highest quality.

If you believe you have roof damage, then you may need to file an insurance claim. If you don't have damage, but are in need of a new roof, then the NC Grant Program may be a good choice.
Steps toward a Fortified Roofing System:
1. Contact Intracoastal Roofing
We've built hundreds of Fortified Roofs, through insurance and the Grant Program and know the process and expectation. We offer a no cost inspection and estimate.
2. Visit StrengthenYourRoof.com or StrengthenYourCoastalRoof.com for apply for the NC Grant -OR- File an insurance claim.
The NC Grant websites allow you to check for initial eligibility by entering your wind/hail insurance policy number. An insurance claim should be filed with your insurance agent or NCJUA/NCIUA depending upon your policy.
3. Choose your Contractors for Bid
The NC Grant programs StrenghtenYourRoof.com and StrengthenYourCoastalRoof.com require that you choose your contractors for Bid in the portal. All actions need to be taken through the website so that you are assured your grant funds upon completion of the project.
4. Review Bids for the Fortified Roof Replacement
The bids will include the Fortified Retro-fit and more details about the roofing system.
Not all bids are the same - A Fortified Roof can be built differently by each company that quotes your project, with different brands of shingles, components and accessories. Compare all materials, quality of installation, and warranties offered.
5. Choose your contractor
Choose your Contractor through the StrengthenYourRoof.com portal. Your project will be moved into Construction phase and an evaluator will be assigned. When you work with Intracoastal Roofing, we help you choose your roof color and schedule your roof around your calendar. We arrange for all material deliveries, crew and evaluator scheduling.
6. Finalize the project
Approve the final invoice and roof build in the portal. You will receive your Fortified Certification and Grant Funds about a month after completion. Intracoastal Roofing works with you through completion and receipt of the grant payment.
